NorthBay Medical Center has been recognized as “high performance” in maternity care by US News & World Report. This is the first time that US News has published a list of the best maternity hospitals.

To earn this recognition, hospitals had to excel on several quality parameters important to pregnant families, including rates of complications, cesarean sections, whether births were scheduled too early in pregnancy, and how successfully each hospital supported breastfeeding.
Of approximately 2,700 US hospitals that provide maternity services, only 237 have achieved a “High Performing” rating. This is the highest US News award for maternity services.

“This rating is a testament to the quality of care provided by our team,” said Katie Lydon, Senior Director of Periop Services, Wound Care and Outpatient Surgery. “We want our patients to know that we are fully committed to providing a safe and positive experience for mothers, babies and families using best practices across maternity departments. “

“We have an exceptional team of caregivers who help welcome hundreds of babies around the world each year, with high-risk pregnancy and neonatal intensive care services when needed,” said Wayne Gietz, president of the NorthBay Healthcare Group. “We are extremely honored to be named one of the best maternity hospitals in the country.”

“This award confirms that our patients can have peace of mind choosing a health care provider who has a proven track record of providing the most compassionate care and leading nearby medicine to mother and child. from home, ”added Konard Jones, President and CEO of NorthBay. .

The award follows another recent award for maternity care. In October, NorthBay Medical Center earned a place on the Maternity Honor Roll of California Health and Human Services and Cal Hospital Compare for achieving a statewide goal to reduce births by Cesarean section in first-time mothers with low-risk pregnancies.

The US News & World Report honor also follows the magazine’s July Top Hospitals report, which ranked NorthBay Medical Center as one of California’s Top 50 Regional Hospitals and ranked it “High Performing” in Urology and Six specific specialized procedures and conditions: diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, pneumonia and stroke.

“All families deserve to be told about hospital performance on key quality indicators, which is why US News has compiled and published a wealth of maternal health data from hospitals across the country,” said Ben Harder, editor and chief of health analysis. at US News & World Report. “The hospitals that we have recognized as high performing meet high standards of care for patients with uncomplicated pregnancies. “

The Best Maternity Hospitals Rating examines offers relevant to expectant parents, including key safety measures, as well as services and amenities, such as private rooms and availability of childbirth classes.

The assessment examines hospital data for uncomplicated pregnancies only, not high-risk pregnancies. Participating hospitals responded to a survey by the US News Health Analysis Team in spring 2021, which reflects data from 2019.
